Nos manuais sobre literatura portuguesa produzidos no Brasil, o autor empírico Luís de Camões continua a ser confundido com as personae poéticas que enunciam os versos atribuídos ele. Neste ensaio, discute-se construção e fixação da imagem do poeta em alguns compêndios pretendem sintetizar períodos históricos (tais como Renascimento Classicismo) gêneros literários, épica lírica.
